Registration for courses usually opens in July, by the beginning of August at the latest

In the registration for the institute's courses, it's not first come, first served. At the end of the registration period, anyone who has registered and meets the course acceptance criteria (such as degree, prerequisites, grades, and approval from the teaching committee at the home university) is a potential candidate for acceptance.

In the course table on the institute's website (click on the "Course List" under "Studies"), there is a detailed breakdown of the credit points awarded by the various academic institutions for each course. By clicking on the course name in the table, a page will open with the course details, which also indicates who the course is intended for. Information on the credit points should also appear in the course descriptions in the catalogs of the different academic institutions. Only a candidate who is eligible to receive credit for the course will be a potential candidate for acceptance. The candidate must verify their eligibility in their personal study track or with the chair of the teaching committee at their home university.

Transcripts should be entered into the registration system. The transcripts must include the name of the academic institution, the student's name, the student's ID number, a detailed list of grades for all years of study, the final degree grade or multi-year average.

You should go to the registration page, update the grade on your personal details page, and also upload updated transcripts to the registration system.

In most courses, participation does not incur an additional fee beyond the one paid to the home university. For a few courses where a minimal fee is required, this is indicated on the course page on the institute's website. Participants should also consider the costs of travel to and from the institute and expenses for purchasing food.

You must register for the course on the institute’s website. You must also register at your home university. Applications are reviewed before the beginning of the first semester, and notifications regarding admission status are sent to applicants. A student who is accepted and confirms their participation will be able to attend the course.

Please note that it is solely the student's responsibility to cancel their course registration at their home university before the end of the add/drop period. The institute will not be held responsible for the consequences of failing to do so, such as being charged for extra credit points or not having enough credits to complete the degree.

Course registration is done through this website. There are two ways to access the registration:

  1. Teaching >> Registration
This page includes instructions, explanations, and detailed participation procedures for the courses. At the bottom of the page, there is a link to the registration form.

  2. Teaching >> Courses >> Course Name
In the course table, you’ll find all the courses offered by the institute, their dates, and the academic credit each university grants for them. At the bottom of the course page (for courses open for registration), a registration link will appear.

The registration process includes several steps. It is very important to follow the steps in order and to carefully follow the instructions at each stage:

  • Login Page
If needed, register as a new user or log in using an existing username and password.

  • Step 1: Updating User Details
This page includes several sections and requires you to fill out personal information (general details, addresses and phone numbers, education, diving).
Very Important! Before choosing courses in Step 2, you must update the degree and year of study that will be valid for the academic year in which the courses take place. Participation in the courses is not dependent on having a diving license.

  • Step 2: Selecting Courses
Choose up to 4 courses from those available to you. If the course has prerequisites, you must list them.
It is highly recommended to fill out the "Reason for Application" section and explain why the course is important and necessary for your studies. Pay attention to the final date on which you may cancel your registration via the system.

  • Step 3: Messages and Conditions for Completing Registration
On this page, you must upload your grade transcripts and degree eligibility approvals according to your current level of study. The grade transcripts (Years 1 & 2, completion of BA, completion of MA) must include:

    • the name/logo of your academic institution,

    • the student’s full name,

    • the student's ID number,

    • a detailed grade report for all academic years,

    • a multi-year GPA and/or final degree grade.

Additionally, if the system requests it, you must upload a letter from your academic institution confirming that the course will be recognized as part of your degree program and that it will award you academic credit.

For a course that is still open for registration, you can cancel your registration through the registration system until the date specified in the system and in the announcements on the institute’s website.
Please note: If you confirmed your participation in a course and wish to cancel after the cancellation deadline, you may only do so with the approval of the Chair of the Teaching Committee and only for justified reasons. A student who confirmed participation but did not attend the course, or who attended but did not complete the course requirements, will not be eligible to participate in future inter-university courses.

The processing of course applications begins prior to the start of the academic year*. Registration for courses scheduled near the beginning of the semester may close about a month before the course starts.

Admission to a course does not depend on the date of registration, as long as registration was completed on time. The chances of being accepted depend on the number of spots allocated for the course, meeting the course admission criteria, and academic grades.

  • According to the academic calendar of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

There is no connection between the acceptance notifications you receive for the different courses. Notifications of acceptance to various courses may be sent to you several days apart, and you may need to decide whether to confirm your participation in a lower-priority course before receiving a response about a higher-priority one.

The courses at the institute are open to third-year students and above only.

Enrollment in the inter-university course is not dependent on holding a diving certificate, and not all courses involve diving. A student who does not dive can successfully complete the courses.
A student who wishes to dive in a course where diving takes place must bring a diving certificate, valid diving insurance, and a logbook to the course. Additionally, a copy of the diving certificate and the diving insurance must be provided. Diving insurance can be purchased at the institute (credit card only).

Swimming ability is not a requirement for admission to the course. In courses where guided snorkeling in the sea or snorkeling for observation takes place, a student who has difficulty swimming may receive a life vest.

A student who struggles with the Hebrew language should consult in advance with the course center they wish to register for. Most inter-university courses are taught in Hebrew. Some courses may be offered in English, and information about this will appear on the course page on the institute's website. The exam is usually conducted in Hebrew, and if possible, assistance in understanding the questions will be provided to students who are struggling. A final report for the course can be submitted in English, subject to prior approval from the course centers.

A refresher dive cannot be done at the institute, and the student must arrange it privately before the course begins.

For your information: Dive insurance can be purchased at the institute, but it can only be paid for with a credit card.

The inter-university courses are open to students studying at higher education institutions listed in the course table on the institute's website. A student's acceptance into a specific course is based on several criteria:

  1. Representation in the course of students from the mentioned institutions studying in tracks/departments that have approved this course as part of their study program.

  2. Meeting the prerequisite requirements for the course.

  3. Grades.

  4. The course's contribution to the student's future scientific work.

  5. The number of students for whom the course is available.

The chances of acceptance into each course vary and depend largely on the number of applicants who meet these criteria.

Students stay in dormitories located on the institute's premises (Beit Dor). The rooms are shared by 4-5 people, and each room has an attached shower and toilet. There are 3 kitchens on the premises, each equipped with a refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, pots, pans, and utensils available for students to prepare food. The institute does not provide food, including basic items such as oil, salt, coffee, sugar, etc. The administrative responsibility for purchasing food in bulk rests solely with the students. The institute only arranges transportation to the supermarket for course participants to buy food products for everyone several times during the course.

The proximity of the dormitory rooms to the teaching labs and lecture halls allows for maximum use of the course time. However, it is important to remember that this is not a hotel, and students are responsible for maintaining cleanliness and order.

Observing the commandments does not prevent a student from participating in an inter-university course, and the course schedule will not negatively impact students who observe the commandments. The exam for certain courses may take place on Saturday night. There is no synagogue at the inter-university institute, but there is one at the nearby Orchid Hotel. Synagogues are also available in hotels about 1.5 km away from the institute. A set of kosher utensils can be provided.

It is the student's responsibility to check whether the course has been approved as part of their study program in their department/track. A student who is not entitled to academic credit (ECTS) according to their curriculum is required to provide a signed written confirmation from their teaching committee chair stating that the course will be recognized and they will receive credit for it.

The final grade of a student in a course is transferred to the academic administration of their home university, and the student must contact them to receive it. The transfer of the final grade is conditional upon the student's full participation in all components of the course (lectures, laboratories, seminars, etc.) from the beginning to the end of the course.

Inquiries regarding grades should be made with the course center. In courses where the final grade depends solely on a final exam, there is no option for a makeup exam.

Exam reviews can only take place at the institute in Eilat, and must be approved by the course center or the chairman of the institute's teaching committee.

The Inter-University Institute does not grant degrees, but a student can conduct research for a Master's or PhD thesis there. Most of the scientists conducting research at the institute, whether residents of Eilat or from the north, are academic staff at one of the higher education institutions in the country. Initially, the student must find a suitable supervisor from among these scientists, and then they must register in coordination with the supervisor at the appropriate academic institution. The institute offers students who conduct their research there, move to Eilat, and meet the criteria set by the institute's teaching committee, teaching positions in the institute’s courses (teaching assistants) and living scholarships.

Anyone, including undergraduate and graduate students, can approach scientists and inquire about the possibility of joining their research projects, either as a volunteer or for payment.

A student who is attending a course and is a breastfeeding mother in need of a nursing room is requested to mention this in advance before arriving at the institute. The institute will ensure a suitable room is provided.
