The IUI is an advanced national infrastructure for marine research and education, serving all institutions of higher education in Israel. Located on the shores of the Gulf of Eilat, the institute offers a rare and unique research environment.

Who is the Institute for?

Researchers

The institute is open to the entire academic community in Israel and abroad and is designed to host researchers in a variety of fields. We offer:

  • Unique research infrastructure in the Red Sea and its coastal environments

  • Logistical, technical, and scientific support services

Graduate Students

Course Participants

The institute offers intensive interuniversity courses (6–10 days) combining theory with hands-on work in the sea and laboratories.
Open to students from all Israeli universities, primarily graduate students, with some courses also available to third-year undergraduates.

The institute offers a wide range of professional facilities, including:

  • Fully equipped research laboratories: microscopy, molecular biology, chemical analysis

  • Certified diving station and technical diving gear

  • Experimental aquaria and controlled grow-out pools

  • Research vessel and field boats, including an ROV for depths up to 300 meters

  • Real-time oceanographic and meteorological monitoring systems
