Why Marine Sciences?
In a world where environmental challenges are growing and the importance of conservation and sustainability of the ocean is becoming critical, marine sciences are at the forefront of the effort to protect the marine environment and ensure the sustainability of our planet. Leading global organizations, such as the United Nations, the OECD, and the European Union, have highlighted marine sciences as a key area for the future of humanity. In fact, the ocean economy is among the fastest-growing sectors worldwide, with growth rates double that of the global economy, according to the OECD.
In Israel, the Council for Higher Education has launched a flagship program in the field of climate and sustainability, with a significant focus on marine and water-related issues. Tens of millions of shekels are being invested in developing research and teaching infrastructure in these areas, with the goal of strengthening research and expanding the number of scientists in marine sciences in the coming decade. Studying at the Interuniversity Institute will provide you with the tools and opportunities to integrate into the academic, public, and private sectors — all with broad impact — and help shape you into a leading marine science researcher.
