Chen Efrat was born on October 1, 1984, the youngest daughter of Malka and Yuval, and sister to Zohar and Shani.
Chen loved the sea in all its aspects: from surfing the waves on the beaches of Tel Aviv and kitesurfing in Eilat to snorkeling in coral reefs and enjoying the beautiful shores of Eilat.
Chen passed away on July 21, 2011, due to an allergic reaction to nuts.
Each year, the Interuniversity Institute for Marine Sciences in Eilat commemorates Chen's memory and her great love for the sea by awarding a prize to the outstanding teaching assistant in the institute’s courses.
The scholarship in her memory is made possible through the generous donation of Mrs. Heidi Rothberg.
