Safety at the Institute
The management of the institute places great importance on creating mechanisms for the continuous improvement of a safe working environment on the institute's premises in order to reduce risks to the physical and mental health of the institute’s residents and guests.
All activities at the institute are carried out in accordance with the safety guidelines and procedures of the Safety Department of the Hebrew University, under the close supervision of a safety officer appointed by them. Additionally, the institute has a diving safety officer, a diving safety committee, and a radiation safety officer, as well as a safety coordinator. The institute also operates a safety forum that meets about six times a year.

Safety Presentation at the Institute
As an inter-university institute, many guests come through the institute's gates at all hours to conduct research. To ensure the safety of the guests and assist with navigation in the institute, a brief presentation has been prepared containing key points for safe behavior within the institute, along with a map of the various safety measures available (such as chemical spill handling, first aid, etc.).
Safety Training
Anyone coming to the institute for extended research work is required to complete a safety learning session once a year. The sessions cover all safety topics relevant to laboratories and include:
-
Major risk factors in the lab.
-
Available safety and emergency measures in the work environment.
-
Principles of safe lab work and the mandatory use of personal protective equipment.
-
Behavioral guidelines during emergencies.
Access to the safety learning sessions is open to anyone registered at the Hebrew University. Guests from other universities are asked to contact the safety coordinator to gain access to the learning materials.
