Marine Microbiology
Dr. Miguel Frada is a microbial ecology, His main interest in research is phytoplankton ecology. Phytoplankton form the basis of the marine ecosystem. Thus, undertanding the role of these microorganisms and how they interact and respond to environmental stressors is critical to understand how the ocean operate and respond to environental changes. His research focus on serveral apsects of phytoplankton ecological dynamcis as well as their life cycles.
Research Topics for Master’s and Doctoral Theses
1. Phytoplankton ecophysiology and life cycles in the open ocean.
2. Role of viruses in low nutrient envionments in the ocean.
3. Role of microbial grazing in coral reef ecosystems.
