Dr. Kevin D. Lafferty - US Geological Survey and University of California, USA

Abstract

is a senior marine biologist with the USGS and faculty at UC Santa Barbara. Lafferty works in estuaries, kelp forests and coral reefs on birds, fishes, invertebrates, and mammals. His research often involves using marine protected areas as natural experiments to understand how marine ecosystems function and their response to fishing. In addition to empirical work in marine systems, Lafferty studies how climate change and biodiversity loss affect infectious diseases. He is an editor at Ecology and Ecology Letters and has published more than 150 papers, including recent works in Science, Nature and PNAS.
