About The IUI
The Interuniversity Institute for Marine Sciences in Eilat (IUI) is a leading center for research and education, located on the shores of the Red Sea. The institute serves as a unique research infrastructure shared by all Israeli universities and offers state-of-the-art facilities and professional support to researchers, students, and professionals.
Since its establishment over 50 years ago, the IUI has supported hundreds of groundbreaking studies in fields such as marine biology, oceanography, and environmental sciences. The institute provides access to seawater experimental areas, fully equipped laboratories, a scientific diving center, a research vessel, various boats, and long-term data repositories—making marine research accessible, efficient, and innovative.
The institute’s unique location in the Gulf of Eilat provides direct access to coral reefs, deep-sea environments, and stable research conditions year-round. In addition, the IUI hosts graduate students, offers unique academic courses, and contributes to the Eilat and Hevel Eilot communities through educational programs and public engagement activities.
